Botega Venetta x Blythe at Omotesando Hills

For years CWC held the annual Blythe Anniversary Charity event at Omotesando Hills. Great big billboards of Blythe graced the facade of this elegant high end shopping mall located smack in the center of Harajuku many times. Tonight I went there to see Blythe being used again, large and grand, in the window of Bottega Veneta, the world famous fashion brand known for their intricate and stylish design details and excellent workmanship. What an impact she is making. It was freezing cold tonight but every person who passed by stopped to look to take photos or just to give commentary about their impression about this great big model. One thing for sure, this window display is going down in Blythe history. Glad I got some photos!!

"oui oui" Hat Workshop at Salon de Junie Moon in Osaka

There are lots of exciting things are happening at Salon de Junie Moon. It continues to grow as a premier private salon for Blythe fans and hobbyists in the Kansai area. With special seasonal displays, private workshops and showroom this a fun place for all Blythe collectors!

ワクワク楽しいイベントがいっぱい！関西のブライスファン、

ホビーファンにとってどんどん重要な場所になりつつあるサロン・ド・ジュニームーン。シーズンを意識したディスプレー、プライベートワークショップ、ショールームなど、技術を習うと同時にブライス愛を楽しく深められますでしょう！

This time I would like to feature another wonderful workshop by "oui oui"! She taught the students some great skills to decorate little hats for Blythe. In true oui oui fashion, the hats had a delicate and sweet design.

今回のワークショップはoui ouiさんが手がけました。彼女からはoui ouiさんらしい可愛らしい帽子細工を習いました！

The Fabulous Metroplaza x Blythe Tea Party

Being on Facebook creates a lot of friends you never know if you will ever meet.  But today in Hong Kong I met many many of my friends and their beautiful Blythe.  What a day! An exhibition of over 70 Blythe dolls, 1.2 meter high replicas of some of our styles, like Sadie Sprinkle and Pickle Winkle decorated the center of the mall.  People were lined up to take photos with the replicas as well as the displayed dolls.

An opening ceremony took place with a special appearance by Karena a beautiful actress from HK. And then a tea party with no time to have tea because we were so busy meeting each other chatting and taking pictures.

フェイスブックをやっているとたくさんの友達を作れますけど、

面と向かって会えるかはちょっと難しいです。だけど今日、香港で多くの友達とそのブライスに会いに行きました！70体以上のブライスエキジビション、それとセイディースプリンクルやピックルウィンクルの1.2メートルレプリカがモールの中心を飾っていました。オープニングには香港の役者さん、カリーナ・ラムさんが特別ゲストとして来てくださって、そのあとはお茶をもらう暇がなかったほど歩きまわったお茶会。いろんな人としゃべったり写真を撮ったりと忙しくて楽しかったです！

At the end we lined up all the girls big and small for a group photo and posed! It was a great day for Blythe!

最後にはみんなと一緒に集合写真を撮って終わりました。最高の一日でした！

Fan Tea Party at Salon de Junie Moon Osaka

This weekend we had a lovely celebration of happy Blythe lovers in Salon de Junie Moon, Osaka. The fans dressed their dolls in their favorite theme, Alice in Wonderland. We all had some tea and cake and a nice conversation. Here we are all together having a relaxing time!

Sneak Peek of the 12th Anniversary Neo Blythe Allie Gabrielle

We've been getting a lot of inquiries about this gorgeous girl gracing the cover of the recent clear file and Blythe stationary goods.  Yes, it's true, she is the 12th anniversary Blythe due to come out in fall this year.  There are a few very special details about her that will be revealed in my next blog entry. She will also be the cover of the 2014 schedule book, and will be featured doll for June in the 2014 wall and desktop calendar.

One small detail. Her name is Allie Gabrielle and there will be only 2013 dolls made in all! A very special girl indeed!

New Collaboration HbG x Blythe

We are in the mist of Spring in Japan, and that means time for new accessories! 

I'm so excited to share the new collaboration HbG x Blythe. We worked closely with Japanese handbag brand HbG to make these fun and fashionable bags.

HbG is well known around Japan for being very fashionable and functional. They are made of a special PVC which is great for rainy season. The inside of the bag has beautiful lining and each are so very well made.

A visit from Momolita and Moledolls

Carmen from Moledolls came to visit Junie Moon today. Momolita came by too so we had a chance to take a group photo of ourselves and our girls.  I love these visits! We just hung out and talked for a couple of hours. It was fun and I hope to see Carmen again. She is really cute and sweet. And her boyfriend was super nice. Both very talented and smart Blythe fans!

Bundling up with Lavender Hug

2013 is finally here! To usher in the New Year we have our very first Neo Blythe  of 2013, Lavender Hug! 

Each year we think about who will be the girl to symbolize the start of the new seasons. When we designed Lavender Hug, I just knew she was the perfect one to warm people's hearts in the cold winter months.

I just call her Lavender. I took her with me for our Christmas Holidays in 2012, out of her box carefully wrapped in a scarf but when I opened the suitcase she was a mess! I combed her hair and slowly revived her back to her original self. Short hair is always difficult to make. If the hair is all one length and cut  straight across, we have to start with a longer length and cut off the excess. For shaggy styles the hair fiber has to be cut to length first and then woven in. There's no cutting after. So it is always a challenge to do short hair. I love my Lavender.

Her sweet fantasy colored hair is complimented by the soft, baby pink one piece and fluffy earmuffs.

Also, a fun new design touch, she has a new style of boots. Who doesn't love new winter shoes?

Blythe at Umeda Hankyu Department Store

 

The Umeda Hankyu Department Store underwent a major renovation and renewal open.  And who do you think is there to make the celebration more than special?  Blythe of course. She is there to raise money for charity and to welcome the Kansai fans with great embrace.

The show is up only for one week. So hurry if you are in the area. Come and see the beautiful new Hankyu store and Blythe.

ブライスと新世紀エヴァンゲリオンは似たような苦労と困難を乗り越えてきたのではないだろうか。ブライスの成長によって「ファッションドール」というステータスが確立し、ブライスに近い個性をもつ商品が数多く生産された。特にプーリップやおでこちゃんのようなドールは、明らかにこの新しい文化のニッチから生まれでたといえる。

ブライスの登場により、市場に溢れかえったありきたりのドールで満足することのできない、好みのはっきりしたドールのコレクターを充分に満足させることができた。

そして、それによってバービーやリカちゃんのようなドールの世界で君臨した女王たちは、ブライスが切り開いた新しい環境に対応していかなくてはならなくなったともいえよう。消費者にドールをカスタムする自由を与えたことによって、ブライスはただのドールではなくなり、本質をもつ「個」となったのだ。

格段のこだわりをもつブライスファンたちは趣味のスペクトルの端から端まで、サブカルチャーの端から端にいたるまで網羅することができる。その理由はブライスとは単にドールの総称であって、彼らのブライスはそれぞれ個々のブライスとして存在しているからであろう。ブライスは独自のファッションやスタイルを持ち、それをフィーチャーすることのできるドールであって、ただの洋服のセットが付随したおもちゃではないのだ。ブライスのファンにとって彼女は自己のイメージを投影することのできる存在なのである。そしてブライスは、いうまでもなく、どんなファッションスタイルをするか、どんな目の表情にするかで大変身を遂げることができる。野性的な魅力のオードリー・ヘップバーンのようになることもできれば、眩いステージの光のなかのリアーナのようにもなることも、目を血走らせた恐ろしげな栗山千明演ずる女子高生にもなれるのだ。

創造性という優れた才能をもつファンの手腕と愛情なしには、ブライスはこのような存在には成り得なかったであろう。この事実こそが現在ブライスが30年以上前に初めて発売されたときとは比較にならないほどに成功している理由なのである。
新世紀エヴァンゲリオンのクリエイターであり監督であった庵野秀明は「ふしぎの海のナディア」の二年間の制作を終えたあと、失意に苛まれていたと言われている。彼のファンの中核であるいわゆるオタクと呼ばれる層との結びつきが薄らいでしまったからであろう。彼は、オタクとは自らの世界に閉じこもったような存在であり、楽観的な世界観のある何かがない限り、意図的に自分の世界と他の世界を行き来できない人だと思っていた。新世紀エヴァンゲリオンを制作することによって彼らが殻から出て自己の存在を表現しはじめることを願っていたのだ。そのためには彼はきっかけが必要だったのだと思う。

綾波レイは革新的なキャラクターであった。彼女の冷ややかな印象の外観は10年もの間様々な作品のなかで追従され、ポップカルチャーの一つとなっている。冷淡で無感情、綾波レイ本人が「ドールような」とも形容する存在について、庵野秀明は綾波レイのコンセプトを「タナトス」という死の本能、死への欲望と語る。

彼女は碇シンジの母親のクローンであり、使い捨てることのできる存在であることを自分自身で認知している。タンクのなかには何百ものクローンが用意されており、時が来れば彼女とすぐに入れ替わることができるからだ。彼女は友人たちの命の危機を救うためには何も考えることもなしに自らを犠牲にするだろう。もちろん、彼女は自分がいなくなることを恐れるが、自分が犠牲になることは他の人々と繋がりをもつことのできる、特に碇シンジと繋がりをもつ最高の方法だと思っている。

彼女の冷淡な外見と情熱的で熱心に戦う内面のギャップはファンの心を深くつかみとった。彼女が実のところ誰なのか、彼女がどのように考え何を感じたのか。推測や想像が巡らされるなか、綾波レイと呼ばれるキャラクターは自分自身で起き上がり、スクリーンから出て、綾波レイという個の存在として歩みはじめた。彼女は人々を夢中にさせ、彼女の虜となった人々によってカスタマイズされた。彼女に捧げられた想いによって生まれ、また、パロディとして新しい一面を表現したり、シンプルにコピーされるなど様々であった。綾波レイはその10年ほどの間、思春期の男の子たちと女の子たちのミューズ、女神、憧れの女の子となった。彼女こそが、心の中に悲しみを隠している人々にとって何かを守ることと何かと繋がること、何かを変えることの意思を見せることのできるのだということを証明する見本であったのだ。

ブライスと綾波レイのファンの特徴は、どちらのファンも彼らのメッセージを届けたいと思っていることだ。そして彼らのブライスと綾波レイに対する愛情は、ブライスのロリータ系ドレスの新しいパターンをデザインしたり、エヴァンゲリオン初号機に乗る綾波レイのシーンをガレージキットで作成したりと、創造性に満ちている。愛情を表現し、それらを仲間同士で見せ合うことや会話を楽しむこと、そして情報を交換し、広めたりして、つながりを作っていくことも楽しみの一つなのだ。人々は、綾波レイのスーツをきたブライスや綾波レイのリボルテックなどコラボレーションによって生まれた作品について、新しいドールの誕生とも、エヴァンゲリオンと言うビジネスの功績とも言うであろう。しかし彼女らの真のファンはこれがただのコラボレーション作品でないことをわかっている。なぜならこれは二つの世界が一つの個として生まれるまたとない瞬間、ブライスであり、綾波レイである、たったひとつの「個」の誕生なのだから。

Q1、What kind of girl is Slow Nimes?
スローニームは　どんな女の子？
 
A、No matter what the situation she is a girl that lives life a day at a
time.  She cherishes every hour of the day, every minute and every moment.
She likes to savor the foods she eats and walks slowly to see the beauty
around her.
どんなことがあっても、落ち着いて、しっかり自分らしく生きる女の子です。
一日一日、一刻一刻を大切にしているのね。あと、食を楽しむことが大好き、そして、ゆっ
くりと散歩をしながら、周りにあるさりげない美しいモノたちを眺めるのも好きです。

 
Q2、Tell me about her fashion.
スローニームの　ファッションについて
 
She is wearing a marine look for Fall.
It can also be a school uniform for a private school in the woods.
It's perfect for those long walks in nature watching busy squirrels collecting acorns to stash for the snowy
wintery days ahead. She has on an adorable navy blue cap with a gold button and red ribbons.
Her fashion keeps her warm in the chilly autumn air.

む由緒ある私立の学校の制服にも見えますね。静かな森の中をゆっくり散歩しなが

What's your philosophy?
スローにムームは　自分のポリシーを　しっかり持っていますが
私のポリシーはというと。
 
A, Slow Nimes believes in the slow life. Take every day slow and easy.
I like that philosophy too but my life is completely different as every hour
is planned and scheduled and I take every day slow but fully.
Never a moment is wasted.
スローニームは、一日を大切にゆっくり、やさしく過ごすこと、 スローライフの素晴
らしさを信じています。私もそれに共感できます。でも、私の毎日は彼女とは違って、
一時間ごとにスケジュールが決まってる！
でも、毎日をじっくり、充実させて過ごすことにしています。どんな時間も無駄にし
ないようにね。

Q4、What are you into right now?  Organic food? Any lifestyle interests?
今、私が大切にしていること。

A、I am into organic food for sure. And also organic soaps and household
cleaning materials. It costs a little more than the ones at the supermarkets
but I feel better about everything when I use things that are not bad for
the earth. I am growing my own vegies too. Not yet perfect but its slowly
getting there. My basils, rucola, tomatoes and eggplants did okay! I also
have a lime tree that gave me a lot of limes. I also like to cook and bake.
And eat!
オーガニックの食材を食べることに心がけています。あと、 オーガニックの石けん、
洗剤なども使うようにしています。普通のものよりも少し値段が高いけれど、でも、
そのように生活することで、自分が地球に対して少しでもよいことをしているのだと
思って、気持ちがよくなります。野菜も自分で育てるようにしていますね。
まだ上手ではないけれど、でもだんだん上達してますよ。
バジルやルッコラ、トマトやナスなど、なかなかの出来でしたよ！
あと、ライムの木があるので、いつもライムはたくさんとれます。
私はお料理は何でも好きですね、だって食べることが好きだから。


Q5、How do you play with Slow Nimes.
スローニームとの遊び方。

A, Slow Nimes is a "Fairest" mold. Which is rare. So I want to play with trying
to find a good look for her. Maybe perm her hair, and change her look and
personality by photographing her in a faster situation !
スローニームはフェアレストのモルドを使っていますから、 とても特別です。
だから彼女をどんなスタイルにするか、いろいろ試してみたいんです。
髪の毛にパーマをかけてみたいし、ぐっと印象を変えるようなことをしたいですね。
あと、彼女をモデルにして、スピード感のある写真を撮ってみたいかな。

Bringing Ayanami Rei to Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo screening

I went to see Evangelion with Ayanami Rei! The movie was fantastic especially since I got to see with Ayanami Rei. I will not disclose the story because Rei won't let me. But I was certainly shocked and surprised as the many twists and turns in that chapter. After this, i will post an essay by my son Isaac who turned me on to Evangelion in the first place.
